NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A 17-year-old girl was shot in a troubling incident that took place just before 8 p.m. on Thursday night, as she was sitting on the front porch of her home in Antioch.
According to reports, the girl was outside with her mother when they noticed two men wearing ski masks walking down their street. Suddenly, one of the men pulled out an object, and moments later, a gunshot rang out.
The young girl was hit in the arm and the left side of her body. Following the shooting, she was promptly taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center where she received treatment for what officials described as non-life threatening injuries.
As of now, the two suspects involved in the incident are still on the run, and local authorities are actively investigating the shooting. The police have urged anyone with information to come forward and assist with the case.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the Antioch community, raising concerns about safety in the neighborhood. Residents expressed their fears regarding the rising violence in the area and the need for improved measures to protect families.
Many community members are calling for more police presence in the area, particularly during evening hours. “We have to be more aware of our surroundings,” one neighbor mentioned. “It’s just not safe anymore, and we need to look out for each other.”
Local leaders have also responded, stating that safety in the community is a top priority. They are planning a meeting to discuss strategies to enhance security and address the recent violent incidents.
As a student, this incident hits particularly hard. Teens in the area are now left to grapple with the reality that their neighborhood is facing such dangers. Some schools are planning to hold discussions regarding safety and coping strategies for students affected by this violence.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges many communities face regarding gun violence. As investigations continue, local residents hope for a quick resolution and the safe return of their community to a peaceful state.
