Police in Berry Hill, a part of the vibrant community that makes up Nashville, are on the hunt for a brazen thief who has been stealing cash from local businesses. The Berry Hill Police Department (BHPD) has reported that this concerning trend began a few weeks ago and is becoming a growing worry for local shop owners and residents alike.
The first theft happened at a Subway store located in Berry Hill. According to the police, the incident occurred when a clerk opened the cash register, allowing the thief to swiftly grab cash right from the till. The good news is that no one was injured during this encounter, but it left the staff clearly rattled. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any video footage to help authorities track down the suspect.
However, luck was on the side of law enforcement when a similar theft took place at the Walgreens on 8th Avenue, which occurred on the night of Sunday, September 8, around 9:30 PM. This time, police managed to capture video evidence that could help identify the thief. The footage shows a man with a striking appearance – he wore a dark shirt, blue jeans, and black glasses, along with a black cap featuring the L.A. Lakers logo. He appears to be around 45 years old, adding a particular twist to the ongoing investigation.
The video revealed the suspect casually entering the store and grabbing a drink from the cooler. After selecting his item, he headed to the cashier to pay with a $10 bill. But things took a turn when the clerk opened the cash register. In a shocking moment, the man reached over the counter and snatched away $340 from the till, quickly making his escape towards a nearby McDonald’s.
While the clerk was unharmed, it’s clear that this unexpected and aggressive theft left him quite shaken. BHPD Sergeant Tony Russo, who is actively investigating the case, noted how startled the clerk was by the suddenness of the crime. “He didn’t really know what to do or expect when he stole that money,” Russo said, emphasizing the importance of understanding how such incidents impact both employees and local businesses.
Based on the suspect’s bold behavior during the Walgreens incident, Sergeant Russo suspects that this may not be the thief’s first rodeo. He indicated that the ease with which the man executed the theft suggests he likely has experience committing similar crimes. Nonetheless, Russo clarified that they cannot definitively connect this suspect to the earlier Subway theft.
As police continue to gather evidence, they are actively seeking help from the community. They have shared the suspect’s image with officials from the Metro Nashville Police Department but, so far, haven’t found any other crimes matching the description provided.
If you happen to have any information regarding this suspect or witnessed anything unusual around those dates, please reach out to local authorities. Every little piece of information can help restore safety to the Berry Hill area and ensure that local businesses can thrive without the fear of theft.
As this story unfolds, locals are reminded to stay vigilant. The community stands strong together, and with some cooperation, we can keep our beloved Nashville safe and secure.
