TikTok to Open Multi-Story Office in Nashville’s Music Row, Signaling Major Expansion of US Operations

TikTok’s Nashville Office Takes Shape Near Music Row

In Nashville, TikTok, the global social media app, is poised to drastically expand its presence. The company, owned by the Chinese firm ByteDance, has been making waves in Nashville for several years. It occupied several floors at the downtown WeWork coworking building, but is now planning a multi-story Nashville office in the Music Row area. This move hints at an increasing investment and presence in the city.

New Location on Music Row

According to planning documents and construction permits, TikTok’s new location will be in the Moore Building on 19th Avenue. The company plans to start interior construction projects focusing on the top five floors of this notable building, which was completed last year. A variety of construction projects are in the works, including the creation of open concept office spaces, enclosed offices, and meeting rooms. An estimated construction cost for this ambitious project has been set at $2.8 million.

Construction Plans and Costs

Another permit reveals the addition of a key element that will enhance collaboration and flow within the office: a staircase. This unique design feature will be connecting the 14th, 15th, and 16th floors. The total projected cost for the implementation of this ambitious staircase is approximately $1.8 million, which adds to the overall investment in the new office site.

About the Moore Building

Historically, the Moore Building was developed by Portman Holdings based in Atlanta, and Creed Investment Company. The building’s unique design was created by Gresham Smith, solidifying its status as a contemporary landmark in the city. Adding to its notable status, an LLC tied to Portman Holdings purchased the lot in 2020 for $8 million.

Safety Concerns

Despite TikTok’s aggressive expansion, it hasn’t been an entirely smooth journey. Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn has previously expressed disapproval of TikTok’s expansion in Nashville. She cited concerns that the app poses a risk to national security. However, this stance hasn’t deterred the social media giant from pushing forward with its plans for expansion.

The forthcoming move and expansion of TikTok into the Moore Building signal a significant consolidation and expansion of the company’s U.S operations, bringing the total number of floors occupied by the company in Nashville to a staggering multiple stories. Despite the ongoing debates surrounding the app’s footprint, one thing is certain, TikTok is set to continue its impressive growth trajectory and build its presence in Music City. The new offices at the Moore Building are surely only the beginning.
