Surge in Trump Support Recorded in Tennessee Amid Legal Challenges, Poll Reveals

Boost in Trump Support in Tennessee Revealed by Beacon Poll

NASHVILLE, Tenn – Latest data from the Beacon Center of Tennessee’s poll highlights a surge in support for former President Donald Trump, the presumed Republican presidential candidate for the 2024 elections. Despite his recent felony conviction in New York, Trump seems to be gaining traction, mostly at the expense of Robert F. Kennedy’s following.

According to the Beacon’s findings, a significant proportion of Tennesseans believe the charges filed against Trump were political, while also acknowledging his felony. Nevertheless, these poll results were gathered before the assassination attempt on Trump in Pennsylvania on July 13, indicating a potential change in figures over the preceding weekend.

Senate Primary Race

In the Tennessee Senate primary race, an increase in support for incumbent Marsha Blackburn over Rep. Gloria Johnson was evident, with Blackburn leading by an impressive 20 points. Blackburn’s lead is particularly noteworthy considering both Democratic Senatorial candidates are outperforming President Biden by nearly 10 points, according to the Beacon.

Tennesseans Oppose Tax Dollars Funding New MLB Stadium

In addition to political queries, respondents of the Beacon Poll were also asked about their stance on the use of tax dollars to fund a new Major League Baseball stadium. A majority of 58% of respondents expressed their disapproval of using tax money for the MLB project. The opposition is even stronger in Middle Tennessee – the probable location for the new stadium.

The Beacon Center report explained, “Nashville is often perceived as a potential hub for a new professional sports franchise. Recent rumors abound a possible MLB team transitioning to the Music City. However, voters clearly feel state tax dollars should not be directed towards building the team’s stadium.”

Inflation: The Persistent Concern

The poll revealed that the predominant concern among Tennesseans, like most Americans, is inflation. An overwhelming 80% of Tennessee residents consider inflation a significant or very significant problem. Conversely, only 5% view it as a minor issue or no issue at all.

The Beacon Center identified the cost of groceries as the primary source of financial pressure for Tennesseans. With skyrocketing prices, 85% are feeling the pinch most acutely at the supermarket checkout.

You can visit the Beacon Center’s website for the full poll results, including specifics on regional and demographic details. As a non-profit, non-partisan and independent organization, the Beacon Center is dedicated to providing sound empirical research and timely free-market solutions to public policy issues in Tennessee.
