Riders need not take any additional steps for this verification process. However, they have the option to aid verification by uploading a government-issued ID to the app. Uber has pledged to securely store verification data and encrypt all ID documents uploaded on the platform.
Once a rider is verified, a Blue Check Mark (Verified Badge) will be visible on their profile. Drivers will see this badge when accepting ride requests, giving them the assurance that the passenger has been certified by the system.
Privacy Concerns Addressed
While this new measure might raise some eyebrows concerning privacy, Uber guarantees that drivers will only have access to limited personal details about riders. Drivers will only be able to view a rider’s first name, star rating, trip details, and Verification Badge. Last names and phone numbers will not be shared with drivers.
