‘Wildfire: The Legend of the Cherokee Ghost Horse’ to Debut Nationwide Creating a Nostalgic Musical Experience Based on Michael Martin Murphey’s Iconic Song

Nashville, TN – A nostalgic musical experience is coming to theaters nationwide as “Wildfire: The Legend of the Cherokee Ghost Horse,” based on Michael Martin Murphey’s hit song “Wildfire,” is set for release on January 26th, 2024. Approximately 50 years ago, Murphey dreamt about a mythical ghost horse, inspired by a Native American legend, which eventually became the basis for the 1975 chart-topping tune. Now, this enduring American melody is set to showcase on the silver screen in a touching tale that transcends generations.

The movie, inspired by Murphey’s song and the Cherokee ghost horse legend, follows a young girl grappling with guilt after the tragic demise of her parents. With their family on the brink of financial collapse, the remaining kin move from Texas to Oklahoma to live with their grandmother on her horse farm outside Tahlequah.

The protagonist, a young girl named Samantha, finds solace in the form of a wild horse that mysteriously appears to follow her home from school every day. The film brings together an ensemble cast including Chevel Shepherd, winner of NBC’s ‘The Voice,’ Mo Brings Plenty from ‘Yellowstone,’ Adrian Paul of ‘Highlander,’ and Cara Jade Myers from ‘Killers of the Flower Moon.’

Notably, “Wildfire: The Legend of the Cherokee Ghost Horse” marks the final film appearance of the late Anne Heche, who tragically passed away in an auto accident in 2022. Besides starring, Murphey collaborates with his son Ryan Murphy and Travis Fite to compose the soundtrack for the film, adding a touch of authenticity with his involvement as a key character, Pastor Micah.

Directed by Eric Parkinson of “Future Shock” fame, this theatrical rendition of Murphey’s hit song promises a compelling narrative of redemption and forgiveness. Fans will be able to stream “Wildfire: The Legend of the Cherokee Ghost Horse” from March 1, and DVD/ BLU-RAY releases are anticipated for June 4.
